Networking made easy: traditional network design is changing. As more and more businesses re-think their needs, contractors will increasingly be asked to install fibre-based networks

Article Abstract:

More and more businesses are upgrading their networks so that data traffic requiring newer high speed protocols such as ATM and Fast Ethernet, will have a smooth path. Central Network Administration (CNA) is a network layout plan depending on logic and lateral thinking to reduce installation costs and cut the amount of time spent on network management. It provides a centralised approach without the need for multiple pieces of equipment and without the need for a particular cabling medium.

Splicing fibre optic cables

Article Abstract:

Splicing of optical fibres may be done simply by using kits. Fusion splicing is more often used in large installations with few splices. It is more expensive initially than mechanical splicing although the quality of both splicing methods is the same. Mechanical splicing is faster and is used where many splices are needed or where space is limited. Both methods require some care with the preparation of the fibre as misallignment leads to attenuation and return loss.

Applying fibre to the network: fibre optic cable is a versatile and powerful transmission medium

Article Abstract:

Fibre optic cable ofers large bandwidth, immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI), security and low attenuation. Fibre also weighs less and is thinner than copper, and installation is similar to that for copper. The two types of optical fibre are Multimode (MM) and Single Mode (SM) which has a very small diameter inner glass core.
