Planning Aid starts to come of age

Article Abstract:

Planning Aid is a UK advice agency which has seen a 59% rise in cases from 1992. Eight Planning Aid centers used part-time and full-time employees in 1994, twice the number for 1992. Planning Aid is more developed in some parts of the UK such as the West Midlands and London. Fundraising activities have been carried out by Planning Aid centres, which seek to develop relationships with bodies providing funds. Activities carried out by Planning Aid include giving planning advice to local government, research, and training for advice agencies.

The merging profile of building control: building control sections are at last being recognised as a vital part of the planning scene

Article Abstract:

Building control sections are becoming departments in their own right having clear responsibility for their own budgets. Building control staff monitor construction details and planning enforcement staff can assist with checking non-technical site issues for building control. The aim is to build a co-operative approach to development problems enabling a fast track approach to provding comprehensive planning policy.

Coming to the aid of the people

Article Abstract:

A survey undertaken by the UK's Royal Town Planning Institute reveals an increasing number of cases seeking Planning Aid. The reason most people seek Planning Aid is for enquiries relating to their own applications, followed by cases relating to neighbours' proposals and other planning proposals. The Planning Aid service is a network of professional volunteers who advise the public on planning problems.
