New grads find strong job market

Article Abstract:

The latest employment survey by Chemical Engineering Progress (CEP) magazine indicates that almost two-thirds of chemical engineering graduates who are seeking full-time employment have already accepted positions. Furthermore, well over 25% of these students have negotiated starting salaries of $52,500 or more per year, with women doing somewhat better than men in terms of number of job offers and pay. Forty percent of the respondents had participated in a co-op program at college, with more than 50% of these participating students receiving a job offer from their co-op sponsors.

A good tool, but..

Article Abstract:

Management-of-change procedural reviews are a useful tool in production planning, quality control and plant safety. No matter how rigorously companies adhere to their management-of-change procedures, however, and no matter how much time and money are spent in upgrading this tool, its validity will ultimately be determined by the skills and leadership of the people in charge of implementing it. In the final analysis, a tool is only as good as the people who use it.

True alchemy: turning brown into gold

Article Abstract:

The chemical process industries stand to gain considerably in many ways by playing a significant role in the redevelopment of so-called brownfield sites. For instance, the industry could alleviate its image problems by committing to concrete actions to clean up and revitalize brownfield sites and return them to productive use. However, for wide-scale brownfield redevelopment to occur, the delicate issue of environmental liability must be addressed.
