No contact is the best contact

Article Abstract:

Variohm and Novotechnik have collaborated on the development of a position sensor which uses an innovative detection method and requires no contact. The design uses conventional resistance and collector tracks. A capacitative pick-up slide, enclosed in an extrusion, allows smooth operation. The sensor can operate in extremely arduous environments. It is particularly suited to measurement in hydraulic cylinders, but other applications could include machine and construction tools.

Fibres pin down composite problems

Article Abstract:

A new technology that improves the functional characteristics of composites and allows higher joint integrity has been developed. The Z-Fiber technology inserts metal or composite pins into a structure, allowing the product to be reinforced entirely, or in a localized area. The process can be undertaken as part of the standard cure cycle and is easily integrated with standard production equipment.
