Officials at a UK based company manufacturing products for the oil industry have implemented the Product Data Management (PDM) software thrice but they have always learnt something new with each implementation. Officials say that one has to design the software as per the company's requirement for which some compromises are required and one must also remember that PDM or Product Lifestyle Management (PLM) as it was previously known, does not come cheap.

Coating reduces engine wear in unmanned aircraft

Article Abstract:

UAV Engines (UEL), a supplier of rotary engines for UAVs in the UK is using Apticote Ceramic 2000, a metal matrix coating system specially developed for high performance automotive engine applications. The coating, developed by Gloucester-based coatings specialist Poeton Industries, is used to add high wear resistance and low friction properties to the trochoidal bores of the rotary engine housings.

A guide to selecting adhesives

Adhesives are a popular method of bonding similar or dissimilar materials using naturally or synthetic substances that form a rigid or semi-rigid interface without fasteners. The factors a design engineer should consider before selection of the appropriate type of adhesive and the advantages and disadvantages of the use of adhesives over mechanical jointing methods is discussed.
