Orientations point the way

Article Abstract:

Employee training sessions are a valuable opportunity for companies to point new workers in the right direction from the very beginning. Well designed employee orientations can reduce adjustment periods for new recruits, minimize turnover and lay the foundation for a long and successful career. Several suggestions for creative employee orientations and taking full advantage of them include conducting needs assessment, enlisting the participation of upper management and making company messages fun and memorable.

Every manager is a mentor

Article Abstract:

Managers should learn to become effective mentors so as to facilitate continuous learning in the factory. Effective mentoring takes commitment, courage, curiosity and compassion and every manager should strive to develop such skills as they can be an effective means of fostering learning in the workplace. Mentoring offers advantages over seminars or formal employee training so it should be considered by managers.
