Paint overspray fed back into gun

Article Abstract:

Unicolour AG's newly developed water-soluble stoving paints combine with a new micro-filtration system to reduce overspray when painting steel pipelines, cast hydraulic components, furniture, automotive components and toys. Unicolour has given Kemira Coatings exclusive distribution rights to the technology. Overspray is collected by water curtains, and then pumped into a filter membrane on the inside of a porous tube. The filter matches its matrix to the coating's molecule size. This means bulk water is filtered out, so paint concentrate is left. The concentrate is then recycled and reused. The formulations contain less than 7% solvent. Many coatings have less than 3% solvent, and Unicolour is developing coatings without any solvent.

Polymer friction pads can slip for years

Article Abstract:

Metool Products has developed a new kind of mechanical torque regulator with a continuous working life of around 30,000 hours. The patented system, known as Contorq, uses polymer friction materials with a low coefficient of friction when dry. The new wet-friction drive is cooled by oil which flows from one side of the machine to the other through a bore of the gear. Contorq was originally developed as a simple drive for motorised hose and cable reeling systems. Applications include mining installations. A description of the regulator is presented.

Lateral thought cuts PTFE costs

Article Abstract:

Dowty Seals has developed a pressed and crimped seal technology economically competitive with traditional fluoro-elastomer seals. The design demonstrates a new approach to seal configuration by replacing seals, steel housing and gaskets with a single component. Advantages include easier assembly, improved performance and greater reliability. The technnology developed from automotive industry needs but has widespread application where cost has previously precluded use of PTFE seal mterials.
