Product reliability considerations empower quality professionals

Article Abstract:

Quality professionals familiar with product liability can provide valuable support to manufacturers in settling product liability disputes. Their expertise in quality management is especially useful in the light of the 983% increase in product liability cases from 1974 to 1988. While strict quality control is still the best guarantee against product liability, manufacturers can benefit much from having quality professionals who are familiar with product liability.

Uncertain future looms for MEP

Article Abstract:

The government requested a $107 mil appropriation for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) for fiscal year 1999, a decrease of $7 mil from last year's budget. The Commerce Department expressed that the decrease was due to a requirement which imposes the 78 MEP centers to reduce their reliance on government to 30% of their budget by their fifth year. The reduction occurred despite the widening productivity gap between large and small manufacturers.

CE marking: do I have to?

Article Abstract:

There are several misconceptions about the CE marking, which is a prerequisite in dealing with the European Community. Some perceive it as a mark of quality while others think that the CE marking is a method employed by the EU to deter American companies from doing business with them. On the other hand, the CE marking is a strategy to facilitate business with the EU by removing trade barriers and serving as a passport.
