Pumped up

Article Abstract:

The US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is organizing a Centennial Edition of NFPA 20, its standard for fire-pumps. Compared to the first edition of the NFPA, which was published in 1900, by a committee made up only of members from the insurance industry, the Centennial Edition of the NFPA 20 has been formulated by a group of experts from various fields. Among the numerous changes made to the requirements for fire-pump installations in the 1999 edition of the document, are the title and scope of the NFPA 20, which will also encompass installation requirements for positive displacement pumps, specifically rotary and gear type pumps.
