QS-9000: small suppliers get behind the wheel

Article Abstract:

QS-9000 certification is believed to enhance the operations of an automotive supplier while beefing up its competitive edge. However, the pursuit of compliance can affect the company's finances and distract its managers from running the business. Certified small suppliers advise that employee training, making individual assignments and choosing the proper registrar provide the right path to certification. Experts also advise smaller companies to establish networks with other small companies and seek help from the Support Group's World Wide Web site.

Composites make the leap: from bombers to bikes

Article Abstract:

Composites have drawn the interest of sporting goods retailers, particularly water ski and bicycle manufacturers, due to the durability and weight advantages these compounds provide. Composites do not only enhance the design of racing-water-ski, but offer optimal strength-to-weight ratio, as well. In bicycle manufacturing, on the other hand, composites undergo rigid testing in order to guarantee flawless performance, stiffness and durability.
