Quality standards for laboratories: the history and benefits of ISO/IEC Guide 25

Article Abstract:

The first International Laboratory Accreditation Conference (ILAC) was convened in 1977 and led to international cooperation in the quality assessment of testing laboratories. The ISO/IEC Guide 25 was established which became the standard for evaluating calibration and testing laboratories throughout the world. Some laboratories are evaluated to ISO 9001 standards which specify management responsibilities more clearly that Guide 25, although Guide 25 gives more specific guidance on quality systems in laboratories. Other comparisons between the two standards are given.
