Ratio, payback, and accounting methods

Article Abstract:

Five categories are used to classify 25 ways and means employed in the evaluation of the economic viability of projects. The net present value and rate of return techniques have already been illustrated. The ratio, payback and accounting techniques are now evaluated. Results indicate that project viability evaluation which use techniques that do not factor in time value of money and minimum attractive rate of return should employ these techniques in connection with other techniques.

The payback method of investment appraisal: a review and synthesis

Article Abstract:

Key literature contributions and published results on the payback (PB) method of investment appraisal were studied in terms of how the method was used in industry. The PB method was found to be used more in routine replacement projects instead of strategically important projects. It was shown to support sophisticated discounted cash flow methods and was found to play a significant role in appraising advanced manufacturing technology projects in the US and the UK.

A new pragmatic approach to capital investment appraisal: the financial appraisal profile (FAP) model

Article Abstract:

The financial appraisal profile (FAP) model provides a new pragamatic approach to capital investment appraisal. The model, which is based on a profile concept, takes into account capital investment proposals by utilizing a profile approach. FAP model views capital investment project from financial, risk and strategic dimensions. It outlines the capital cost of a project, its estimated economic life and the capital cost of an organization.
