Recycling cooling & boiler water

Article Abstract:

Chemical process industries (CPI) are recycling their cooling and boiler water to lessen their fresh water requirements and cut costs. However, reusing cooling and boiler water require that CPI monitor levels of total dissolved solids (TDS) and use water treatment systems. The choice of water treatment and monitoring system depends upon the individual company's needs. Aside from chemical treatment, filtration can also be used. Filtration, which is the removal of suspended particles, allows water to be reused several times before it is disposed.

European chemical industry supports research on endocrine disruptors

Article Abstract:

The European Chemical Industry Council said it will award $7 million in research grants to find out if man-made chemicals disrupt the endocrine system. Substances wiht molecular structures similar to hormones such as bisphenol-A have been suspected of causing anomalies in animal reproductive systems such as sex changes in fish and breast cancer in humans. Independent research institutions in the UK, the Netherlands, France and Sweden can apply for the grants.
