Sequentially testing the waters in Scotland

Article Abstract:

New proposals from the Scottish Office concerning land used for housing development has been received positivity by the housebuilding industry. Although some areas remain uncovered by the report, others such as the need for planners to involve housebuilders before any plans on housing requirement are made, were welcomed. Initially it seemed that local authorities would be able to avoid fulfilling quotas for house construction but the new report has prevented this from occurring which will assist developers when planning to maximize house construction within an area.

No comparing a fine wine with a tired town

Article Abstract:

Two appeal decisions in Watford and Woodford Green, England, show that the Planning Inspectorate may put different interpretations on the PPG6 planning law relating to A3 use in town centres. A proposal for a wine bar on two floors of a Woodford Green building was rejected by the council on the basis that it was an inappropriate use of a retail area, while planners in Watford saw a similar wine bar as being beneficial to the town centre. The main difference between the two decisions is the potential retailer interest in the two properties.
