Slowdown seen for sales of passives

Article Abstract:

The sales of passive components are expected grow by 5% annually during the 1997-2002 period to reach more than $17 billion by 2002. The market growth was 6.7% annually from 1992 to 1997. The slower growth is due to lesser use of passive components in original-equipment-manufacturer products such as personal computers, motor vehicles and industrial electronic equipment. However, other OEM segments such as wirelss telephony and intelligent transporation systems are expected to use of greater number of passive components during the five-year period.
