Software smartens up data manipulation

Article Abstract:

Software packages for acquisition, analysis and visualization are building on new capabilities to cause data and software to interact, in part or taken as a whole. Software developers are not looking at their creations as isolated products anymore, but seeing them as components of a larger whole. Satellite magnetometer data is one of the examples illustrated; Universal Serial Bus (USB) is discussed as is networked data visualization. Companies discussed include National Instruments (LabVIEW v. 5.1), IOtech, (Personal DaqView XL), Quatech (DaqSuite), Capital Equipment Corp., (TestPoint Professional Suite), Strawberry Tree, (WorkBench PC), Visio Corp., (Visio), The Math Works (MatLab), Conceptual Systems & Software (EnConnect), Visual Numerics (PV-Wave, JWave v. 2.0), and Amtec Engineering Inc. (Tecplot), as well as database management software companies and hardware companies.
