Article Abstract:

London's underground Mail Rail service delivers four million parcels and letters daily to and from the capital's four main Royal Mail sorting offices. The 70-year-old service runs on 37 km of track using a fleet of 53 driverless trains, controlled by computer. The trains are powered by traction drive motor units, which have an average life of around nine months. Motor repairs to the fleet have been contracted out to Lee Beesley Deritend, which has a network of repair branches across the UK.
