Europe space research faces budget squeeze

Article Abstract:

Space research in Europe is saddled by budget constraints as Germany, a key supporter of the European Space Agency (ESA), has expressed a desire to freeze spending on space technology. The German Ministry of Research and Technology has allocated $729 million, or 17% of its total $4.3 billion research and development (R&D) budget in 1992, to the ESA. About $793 million has been allotted for the agency for 1993. Yearly increases, however, will be pegged at 2.5% until 1997.
