The Stanford diaries

Article Abstract:

Five Stanford University engineering undergraduate students spent a summer at Sta Clara County, CA, as part of the school's Technology Ventures Co-op (TVC) internship program. The students selected for the program are the school's most outstanding engineering majors who have at least a senior standing. Five of the initial class of TVC students who interned during the summer of 1996 recount their experiences. Sections of their personal diaries are presented.

Article Abstract:

Ten of the coolest, baddest, hippest, grooviest, most gratifying EE jobs involving a deep connection with technology are identified, by finding the people having the most fun. It is suggested that one might get the dream job, by joining the technical societies in and out of one's field, going to the conferences, reading the journals, getting a job in a related field, making personal contacts, and getting some experience by working in a big company.

The longest survivor loses its grip

Article Abstract:

Zenith Electronics Corp is the sole surviving US manufacturer of television receivers. The company is noted for its high quality technology and products, and has diversified into such areas as the personal computer business. Cutbacks in its research and development operations together with increasing foreign competition have led Zenith into unprofitability, however, and the company is rumored to be considering the sale of its television business.
