The U.S. engineers shortage - how real?

Article Abstract:

Congressional plans to increase the number of foreign engineers and foreign-born engineering graduate students to solve the shortage of engineers in the country must be reconsidered. Admitting engineers from other countries would suppress salaries and further dampen the attractiveness of engineering graduate education to US-born engineers. What is needed is a national retraining program for engineers and scientists aimed at extending their working lives to age 70.

With extension on metric labels, U.S. firm weigh their options

Article Abstract:

The European Parliament has granted a 10-year extension of directive 80/181/EEC, originally set for implementation on Jan 1, 2000, to Dec 31, 2009. The directive, which almost resulted in a trade war between the US and the European Union (EU), requires all products sold in the EU to be labeled only in metric measurements. The extension is expected to give ample time for US companies to alter their labeling procedures.
