Across the outback on photons alone: with Australia's desert as its raceway, the World Solar Challenge illuminates some of the best electric-vehicle technology

Article Abstract:

The World Solar Challenge Race is a 3,000 kilometer race from Darwin, Australia to Adelaide, Australia. The cars in the competition are powered by six square meters of solar cells that give out one to two kilowatts of power which is around the same energy as a hair dryer. Delft University of Technology's Nuna car won the 2007 World Solar Challenge Race for the fourth time in a row.
