Total reliability is the goal: machine reliability is heavily influenced by lubrication best practice

Article Abstract:

Lubrication is a top priority in the design of food processing machinery and lubricants are often lost or contaminated during washdown, due to cleaning fluids and high pressure water jets. Thurne Engineering's Polyslicer Plus MC use a rotating blade for slicing meat. Thurne used Kluber Lubrication to develop a range of mineral oil free lubricants which offer good water resistance, good corrosion protection and high ageing and oxidation stability.

Weak link or the way ahead?

Article Abstract:

The performance of gearboxes can be greatly affected by invisible modifications. Gearboxes may look similar from the outside, but changes in design can improve performance. Interest is currently growing in sintered gears, where different gear parts are made of different alloy systems. performance is also greatly improved by the finishing of gear teeth faces. Designers need to look more closely at gearbox suppliers' claims, to do a good job.

Understanding vibration damping

Article Abstract:

Application determines the choice of coupling in engineering design. Torsional resilience is a prime consideration. Couplings may potentially damp torsional vibration and reduce damage to components. Plotting specific torsional stiffness against nominal torque enables damping assessment of coupling design.
