The standards development process: user input is key to acceptance

Article Abstract:

The US Standards Group develops and maintains standards connected with management systems and related technologies. It focuses on statistics, quality, dependability and environment. When developing a standard, interested parties must first agree to begin the work. The standard is then drafted and released for comment. After revision, the proposed standard is issued, and a final draft international standard is published following a final round of voting. The most successful products of the US Standards Group have been the US versions of the ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 standards.

ISO 9000 preparation: the first crucial steps

Article Abstract:

Organizations would benefit from adoptng ISO 9000 standards as a basis for their total quality management system. A systematic approach in following the first steps of ISO 9000 can equip an organization in integrating ISO 9000 in their quality system. The selection of the appropriate standard needs consideration of factors such as the complexity of the design process, design maturity, safety of the product or service and customer requirements.
