Of workstations & supercomputers

Article Abstract:

The increasing power of workstations has led to them almost acquiring the capabilities of supercomputers. Workstation-based clusters and multiprocessing configurations have raised serious questions about the relationship between the two platforms. Workstations have traditionally been considered the front-end for supercomputers. However, the performance boundaries between classes of computer are constantly changing, and have now led to clustered workstation configurations being the equivalent in processing power to minisupercomputer, or entry-level supercomputer, systems. Detailed is an overview of the relationship between workstations and supercomputers. Areas discussed include categorizing applications and computers, performance increases, analyzing applications, and where workstations are used most.

Auto manufacture digitizes in depth

Article Abstract:

Fierce competition in the contemporary global economy is reflected in the automobile manufacturing industry. Digital technology has enabled the sector to cut costs, shorten the product development cycle and improve productivity in order to efficiently respond to competitive pressures. The integration of design and manufacturing software and the auto industry's active use of virtual reality and digital technology in prototype development is already enabling automakers to realize their competitive goals. The sector's use of digital technology is evaluated.
