Protection in the heat: it is not enough to consider just the effect of self-generated heat on parts of an electrical installations. Contractors must not overlook the consequential risks associatied with high temperature electrical equipment

Article Abstract:

Electrical fires may be due to 'consequential' damage, rather than an electrical fault, and amendments to BS7671 consider consequential fires with additions to the Protection Against Thermal Effects chaper. The installer must understand the potential for future risks such as taking not of flammable materials which could be placed close to electrical equipment. Thought should also be given to risks linked to display lighting.
