Five Baldrige Awards in year five

Article Abstract:

Winners of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards for 1992 are given. AT&T's Transmission Systems Business Unit and Texas Instruments' Defense Systems and Electronics Group is the winner in the manufacturing category. AT&T's Universal Card Services and the Ritz Carlton Hotel Co are the winners in the service category. Granite Rock Co won the small business category award. The awards were created by Congress in 1987 to promote the value of total quality management and as a reward to American companies achieving excellence in quality control.

Electronics firms capture Baldrige

Article Abstract:

Three electronics firms were awarded the 1991 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards for improvements in total quality management among US companies. Marlow Industries is a Dallas, TX-based company that manufactures customized thermoelectric coolers. Solectron Corp produces printed circuit boards and subsytems for the computer and electronics industry, and also offers assembly services. Zytec Corp makes ac and dc power supplies for electronic equipment.

Quality of US-made semicounductors for military integrated circuits is improving

Article Abstract:

The Semiconductor Industry Assn has reported an increased improvement in the integrated circuits made for miltary applications in the US. Defects in the circuits have been detected at an average of 100 parts per million (ppm), and is steadily declining. Efforts to improve quality have led to an average of less than 100 ppm, an effect of production and testing methods employing total quality management.
