How will the future measure up?

Article Abstract:

The fate of measurement technology in the US depends primarily on how efficiently professionals interpret various measurement data and employ these information for commercial applications. And as business enterprises underscore the need for acquiring accurate measurement capabilities, private companies and government-subsidized institutions have waged efforts in conducting researches for developing alternative measurement techniques. One of the main issues metrologists attempt to address is how industries adopt with the introduction of new metrology machines.

Don't assume it's flat

Article Abstract:

The tolerance limits of flatness are determined by the kinds of measurements that will be affected by the surface plate. The equipment to be used in determining flatness is dependent on the tolerance limits, the person who will do the measurements, equipment capacity to accommodate the plate to be measured, where the measurement will be done, and the time constraints. The three main devices used for calibrating are differential electronic levels, autocollimators and interferometers.
