Tomorrow's utility today - a look at what deregulation may bring

Article Abstract:

Carolina Power and Light (CP&L) of Raleigh, NC, is already providing standby power to customers for a fixed monthly fee even before the dregulation of the electric power industry. CP&L has started offering its Premier Power Service program in 1998, which is structured to benefit both the customers and the utility. The program needs no capital outlay from customers who are required to sign up for a five-year lease. The monthly fee includes all installation, maintenance and fueling of the standby power system.
