U.S. Standards Group seeks comment on committee drafts of ISO revisions

Article Abstract:

The US Standards Group is asking the public to comment on the first committee drafts of key year-2000 changes to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9000 series. American National Standards Committee Vice Chmn Curtis DeVries relates the activity to participation in voting wherein the public has a chance to create valuable enhancements to the new standards. The ISO drafts are available in a single package for easier review and comment by the public.

How protecting the environment impacts R&D in the United States

Article Abstract:

Companiesthat utilize research and development (R&D) to help preserve the environment and to attain economic development can capitalize on several direct and indirect market opportunities. Environmental protection is projected to result in industrial R&D costs of about $65 billion by 1997, as corporate leaders become aware of the impact of environmental strategy to the success of their business.

ISO 14000 revisions likely to be minor

Article Abstract:

Changes to the ISO 14000 standards for environmental management are examined in detail. There are not likely to be any major changes, though there may be some clarifications, and efforts to improve compatibility with another ISO standard, 9001:2000.
