US corporate executive knowledge of ISO 9000 lacking: US firms exporting to the EC should become familiar with ISO 9000 series standards

Article Abstract:

US corporate executives seem to lack substantial knowledge of the scope and potential impact of the manufacturing standards established by the EC's International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). These standards are similar in purpose to those of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the American Society for Quality Control (ASOQ). However, since ISO/IEC standards differ from ANSI/ASOQ standards, strict enforcement as import rules might have disastrous economic impact.
