U.S. spending outlook

Article Abstract:

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has reduced its 1994 estimate of US industry expenditures on industrial research by $3 billion as proposed reductions in state funding for R&D programs begin to affect operations. The NSF has decreased funding projections from $25 billion in 1994 to $22 billion in 1995. Industrial research spending is expected to increase to $171 billion in 1995 from $169.1 billion in 1994. However, the increase is actually a 1.6% reduction in constant 1987 dollars from 1994 to 1995.
