Using QFD becomes an educational experience for students and faculty

Article Abstract:

Quality Function Deployment is a method for improving quality by directly interviewing customers. Customers' desires are matched with system design elements. The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Engineering Dept used Quality Function Deployment to revise its curriculum. Undergraduates, faculty members and potential employers were considered customers. Total Quality Management principles were used to improve the curriculum. The program was reduced from five to four years and industry-directed classes such as statistical process control, experimental design and competitive manufacturing were added.
