Article Abstract:

A study by Spawforth Planning Associates looked at the local delivery of planing services. Local planning authorities were surveyed to idenitfy innovatory practice which could assist other authorities. This has led to further debate on how new larger authorities can take account of views at a local level, whether decisions made at local level may be unbalanced at with anti-development bias and the effects of devlolvement to mini town halls on the central town hall.

Drawing up battlelines

Article Abstract:

Many local plan reviews should be undertaken now as most have an end date of 2001. The significance of the local plan is becoming more widely appreciated with an increase in the number of objections. Monitoring and review should focus on the plan's critical features and aims, objectives and targets should be clearly stated. Local plans may need updating to incorporate building sustainability.
