Power vacuum looms in Republic of Guinea

Article Abstract:

The reversal of a decision to reshuffle the cabinet and the dismissal of Prime Minister Cellou Dalein Diallo in April 2006 are indicative of the behind-the-scenes jostling for power currently taking place in the Republic of Guinea ahead of an expected power vacuum. The events have also raised fears of a military takeover if steps are not taken to prepare for a democratic transition of power should ailing President Lansana Conte be declared incapacitated or die of office.

A system with over 250 microprocessors can coordinate 250 pieces of video equipment for the making of a television show. A central computer routes messages to and from nodes of the network.
