Whatever Happened to Solar-Powered Satellites?

Article Abstract:

While the need for satellites collecting solar energy for earth is less urgent than it was fifteen years ago, the idea is technically feasible. A hypothetical satellite would be ten by five kilometers and would transmit energy by microwave to earth. Problems with current development include space transport systems, solar cell technology, and automated construction in space. Research in these areas and microwave power transmission continues.

Whatever Happened to Distributed Computation?

Article Abstract:

The ARPANET is a distributed computation system linking many installations. Other applications of distributed computation exist and use migrating programs called 'worms' or 'tapeworms' that move between nodes of the network. Applications from distributed computation are now being used for mainstream computer technologies.

Whatever Happened to Four-Channel Stereo?

Article Abstract:

Four-channel stereophonics - quadraphonics - was found to be too complicated and too expensive. Systems required had to be discrete because of the complexity. Many systems were incompatible, not fully developed, and recorded material was scarce and of poor quality.
