A weed risk assessment model for use as a biosecurity tool evaluating plant introductions

Article Abstract:

Many new plant taxa imported into Australia and New Zealand from around the world could potentially become agricultural or environmental weeds. A weed risk assessment system has been developed, using information on a taxon's current weed status in other areas. The system was tested against experts' scores for weediness, and judged on its ability correctly reject weeds and accept non-weeds. Over 70% of tax were rejected or accepted, with all taxa classed as serious weeds rejected, or requiring further evaluation.

User pay financing of stormwater management: A case-study in Ottawa-Carleton, Ontario

Article Abstract:

An economic model for user pay financing of stormwater management in ONtario was developed based on the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton (RMOC) case study. Institutional and legal issues relating to the operation of this approach are also identified. Preliminary results suggest that monthly stormwater charges are comparable to those in USA programs, and existing statutes in Ontario provide enabling legislation for stormwater user charges.

Exploring changes in Ecuadorian land use for food production and their effects on natural resources

Article Abstract:

Possible future changes in land use for food production in Ecuador, and their effects on natural resources are examined using the Conversion of Lan Use and its Effects (CLUE) model. The model could assist researchers and policy makers, addressing the impacts of developments and decisions at both regional and national level.
