Watching the Cold War

Article Abstract:

Jeremy Isacs was given the task of telling the story of the Cold War by Ted Turner, owner of CNN. The video series uses archive material, interviews and other sources to tell the story, and there is also an illustrated coffee-table style book to go with the video series. Critics would point to the emphasis on gloom in the story, while this period was also a time of prosperity, and a number of problems have been tackled, such as the reunification of Germany. A third world war has also been avoided, and a long period of peace lasted to 1989 from 1945.
