Quality of life structural analysis

Article Abstract:

A cross-sectional data and fixed effect assumptions were used on a hedonic equilibrium model to derive a quality of life based ranking for five US cities. The empirical results showed that a smaller city such as Indianapolis or Dallas is likely to outrank a larger city like Chicago, Houston or Cleveland. A high quality of life index cannot be determined on high income or low consumer price index as in the case of Chicago. Indianapolis significantly had the highest ranking when the housing characteristics are held constant in all cities.

Carry-over effects and habitat quality in migratory populations

Article Abstract:

Carry-over effects are events that occur in one season but influence individual success the following season and empirical evidence suggests that they may play an important role in migratory population dynamics. Carry-over effects may be manifested in a number of other ways that could influence population dynamics.

Melanins, metals, and mate quality

Article Abstract:

The use of melanin-based coloration as a reliable indicator of quality is explained with the help of a novel biochemical mechanism. The accumulation, stimulatory action and eventual detoxification of metal ions are involved in this mechanism.
