Coastal resource management in Cuba

Article Abstract:

Coastal management in Cuba has faced significant challenges since halting trade with the US in 1959. The tourist industry has grown since 1990, which has led to widespread degradation of the coastal environment. Pollution, sedimentation, and increased water temperatures from power plants are other factors contributing to environmental decline. Cuba is attempting, in 1998, to establish strategies for working on these problems.

Artificial reefs and dive tourism in Eilat, Israel

Article Abstract:

Artificial reefs in the Gulf of Aqaba off the coast of Israel have been shown to create new habitats for fish and serve as attractive dive sites. The primary purpose of such reefs in Eilat was to improve diving and reduce the environmental pressure on the area's coral reefs. Artificial reefs erected around wrecked ships have proven especially popular.
