Combating the fragile karst environment in Guizhou, China

Article Abstract:

The Chinese province of Guizhou is recognized as made up of karst landscape and even being considered for an application for entry into the UNESCO's list of World Natural Heritage Sites, which comprises of bare rocks, scattered and thin soil covers, frequent technical drought and extremely difficult vegetation restoration. The ecologists and geographers along with localities and government are taking various steps to fight the degradation of the fragile karsts environment, rock desertification and promote development of the local economy.

Spatio-temporal patterns and driving forces of urban land expansion in China during the economic reform era

Article Abstract:

The mapped urban land expansion in China shows that China's urban expansion has high spatial and temporal differences. Urban expansion is largely driven by demographic change, economic growth, and changes in land use policies and regulations.

Fanwort in eastern China: an invasive aquatic plant and potential ecological consequences

Article Abstract:

The invasive aquatic plant fanwort (Cabomba caroliniana) is generating negative ecological effects in eastern China. The plant threatens native species, promoting eutrophication.
