Current velocity and habitat patchiness shape stream herbivore movement

Article Abstract:

The interaction of habitat availability in a streambed landscape with current velocity to affect movement patterns of two benthic grazers, glossosomatid caddisfly larvae (Agapetus boulderensis) and pulmonate snails (Physa sp), is examined. The results have illustrated a strong interaction between benthic habitat structure and current velocity in shaping patterns of grazer movements in a streambed landscape.

An analysis of the analysis of herbivore population dynamics

Article Abstract:

A thorough investigation is provided of the possible shortcomings of biological interpretations from the time series analysis of herbivore dynamics. It is concluded that there is no general interpretation of the different kinds of analysis techniques used and the probability of detecting density dependenc`e and effects of rainfall vary between systems.

Compensatory growth of fast-growing willow (Salix) coppice in response to simulated large herbivore browsing

Article Abstract:

A study to test the effect of timing and intensity of deer browsing on compensatory response by willow grown for bioenergy is presented. The fast-growing willows responded within the whole continuum from under- to overcompensation depending on the circumstances.
