Death odour changes movement pattern of a Collembola

Article Abstract:

Individuals of a Collembola, Protaphorura armata, were video-tracked on a clay surface in a petri dish for analyzing their movement pattern in an environment having attractive and repellent cues. It was found that the areas with dead conspecifics were repellant whereas the areas with live conspecifics were found to be attractive.

Spatial and temporal variation in patch occupancy and population density in a model system of an arctic Collembola species assemblage

Article Abstract:

The experimental model system is used to investigate the mechanisms underlying the patterns of patch occupancy and population density in a high arctic assemblage of the Collembola species. The need for a thorough knowledge of species-specific life history traits for sound interpretation of data is emphasized.

Effects of plant diversity on Collembola in an experimental grassland ecosystem

Article Abstract:

The results indicate that the presence of certain plant functional groups and plant species are more important for Collembola density and diversity than plant species number and number of functional groups. Microbivorous soil invertebrates are controlled by food quality rather than quantity.
