Deer wintering habitat and wetland protection in Maine: spatial intersection of mapped resources

Article Abstract:

Research shows that the deer wintering regions in Maine should be protected and considered as habitats separate from wetlands, in spite of a slight overlap of the two regions. Many types of wetlands would be protected due to the protection of deer wintering area, as these areas are a part of coniferous lowland forests.

Stream and riparian management for freshwater turtles

Article Abstract:

An evaluation is presented on riparian ecosystem management practices and their impact on freshwater turtle migration, nesting, feeding and wintering behaviors. Research results from four countries and eight US states indicate that riparian zones are typically too narrow to properly accommodate turtle habitat needs.
