Discrepancies in an environmentally controversial salt production project: local versus national and international perceptions

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on factors resulting in the cancellation of a salt production project targeted for the San Igancio Lagoon in Baja California, Mexico. The authors argue that although data suggest the project may have been environmentally benign, negative international press coverage of the project, rather than community opposition, generated the cancellation.

Sustainability of coastal resource use in San Quintin, Mexico

Article Abstract:

Aquaculture is more sustainable than agriculture for coastal resource use in San Quintin, Mexico. The "physical sustainability index" developed for this study suggests aquaculture is currently used at 40% of the level the environment could reasonably tolerate.

Water management for a megacity: Mexico City metropolitan area

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on water supply management and wastewater treatment practices for Mexico City, Mexico. Findings indicate that improvements are needed to enhance efficiency and sustainability for both processes.
