Does a lack of mating opportunities explain monandry in the green-veined white butterfly (Pieris napi)?

Article Abstract:

The longitudinal variation in female mating frequency and remating rate is explored by comparing the mating patterns of female butterfly (Pieris napi) with varying origins in a laboratory and the mating frequencies of wild and laboratory females. The analysis has revealed spatial variation in female mating frequency, with monandry being a clearly more common mating tactic in the north than in the south, but has not found any evidence that either the maintenance of monandry or spatial variation in female mating frequency is prompted by a lack of mating opportunities.

A survival course to a mating in a polyandrous butterfly, Colias eurytheme

Article Abstract:

The toxic side effect of male ejaculation to the females in the case of the polyandrous butterfly, Colias eurytheme, is investigated. The ambiguity about the impact of the observed longevity cost on the evolution of lifetime mating schedules in this polyandrous species is discussed.

Diversity and community composition of butterflies and odonates in an ENSO-induced fire affected habitat mosaic: a case study from East Kalimnatan, Indonesia

Article Abstract:

The richness of the species, evenness, and community similarity of butterflies and odonates in landscapes located in unburned isolates and burned areas in East Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo is examined. The impact of distance and environment on beta diversity is analyzed.
