Editorial: future of environmental engineering

Article Abstract:

An editorial on the future of environmental engineering has stressed the maturity of the field as shown by the complexity of the technical and scientific issues being confronted. The editorial has also cited the need for a single organization that can represent the various disciplines related to environmental engineering. This organization must be headed by people who are not only technically competent, but also adept in the social and political fields.

Trends in water and environmental programs: meeting the next century's engineering challenges

Article Abstract:

Environmental engineers should be prepared to face the new challenges posed by water and environmental programs as the 21st century approaches. Three dimensions which are expected to significantly affect the environmental engineering profession are technical, political and economic. Environmental engineers should view their future role as environmental professionals in terms of a new association with the economic development process.
