Environmental Quality of Jordanian Coastal Surface Sediment, Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea

Article Abstract:

Surface sediment samples were collected from five stations along the Jordanian coast of the Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea during October and November over 2 years, 2001 and 2002 and the collected sediments were analyzed for color, odor, redox potential, grain size, organic carbon, organic nitrogen, calcium carbonate and total phosphorus. It was revealed that the majority of coastal sediments is coraline and has a strong buffering, controlling effect of a soluble phosphate in seawater.

Using integrated coastal management and economics to conserve coastal tourism resources in Sri Lanka

Article Abstract:

A special management area plan would help to restore the coastal ecology of Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka. High tourism use has caused great damage to the area, which could in turn reduce its value to the tourist industry. An environmental plan, financed by tourist monies, is proposed.
