Policy perspectives: environmental management and renewable energy in the Pacific Islands

Article Abstract:

The possible solutions for developing renewable energy in the Pacific Island region from policy perspectives were analyzed. The implementation of national energy policies in favor of renewable energy, development of renewable energy through international aid, and the allotment of sufficient capital resources and technical assistance were believed significant for the enhancement of renewable energy systems.

Mangrove management and utilization in Eastern Africa

Article Abstract:

Mangroves of Eastern Africa offer a diverse resource that can benefit the economy while protecting coastal environments. The greatest challenges to such regions come from increased tree cutting, charcoal and fuelwood harvesting, prawn aquaculture and ecosystem fragility. Management projects in Tanzania, Mozambique, and Kenya have produced useful data.

Temporal mangrove dynamics in relation to costal development in Pacific Panama

Article Abstract:

The changes in extent of fringing mangrove located in Punta Mala Bay, Panama in relation to costal development over a period of two decades are assessed. Punta Mala Bay is chosen due to its social importance and its biological significance, as it is one of few mangrove areas left around Panama City.
