Environmental threats, mitigation strategies and high-mountain areas

Article Abstract:

A global perspective, is presented focusing primarily on observed and projected changes in climate and then going on to discuss key messages of greatest relevance to the highest belts of mountain regions. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions offer a unique opportunity to modernize energy systems, address a number of local and regional air pollution problems and protect biodiversity and ecological systems, which are the very foundation of sustainable development.

Internally motivated development projects: a potential tool for biodiversity conservation outside of protected areas

Article Abstract:

Internally Motivated Projects, (IMPs) are more likely to succeed than externally motivated projects. IMPs do open the door for resource conservation of soil, water, air and biodiversity conservation both at on-farm and off-farm sites. Indirectly IMPs effect biodiversity by reducing off-farm impacts.

Desert locust control in ecologically sensitive areas: need for guidelines

Article Abstract:

Covering a large area of different landscapes and ecosystems, chemical control of desert locust (DL) was carried out over large areas of land. The results indicate that chemical control occurred in areas where there were human settlements; or near environmentally sensitive areas.
