Free market environmentalism: selling our right to clean air

Article Abstract:

Emissions trading began at the Chicago Board of Trade on Mar 29, 1993. Emissions trading, a component of the Clean Air Act, allows electric utilities to sell allotments of air pollution to other companies. A study done by the Center for Energy and the Environment at the University of Pennsylvania proves that emissions trading is not the cheapest and most effective way to reduce pollution in general, and sulfur omissions in particular.

The clean energy revolution

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the approval of Proposition B by voters in San Francisco, California, which will authorize up to $100 mil to fund solar power for city agencies. Greenpeace activists believe the proposition, which passed with 73.4% of the vote, indicates that the general public supports renewable energy sources rather than those based on fossil fuels.
